How To Play

New to racquetball?

To play a game of racquetball you only need a few things to get started. Most racquetball equipment and accessories can be purchased seperately or starter kits can be purchased for about $30 from a club proshop or sporting goods retail store.
Racquet (Cost anywhere from $20-$200, depends on budget, and willingness to pay for feel and technology.)
Eyewear (Recommended and important, helps reduce the risk of injury if you are hit in the eye.)
Ball (Balls come in different colors such as blue, green, lavender and black. Any color will do.)
Glove. (Optional, this will help you keep a firm grip on the racquet during those fast rallies.)
Shoes (Any type of indoor court or tennis shoe, there are shoes designed specifically for racquetball.)

For more information on how to play, tips from the pro's, video instruction and more visit Racquetball University online.

Waselenchuk Makes History

Rhonda Rajsich and Kane Waselenchuk, 2009 US OPEN ChampionsThe 2009 14th US OPEN Racquetball Championships concluded this past weekend in Memphis, TN at the Racquet Club of Memphis and featured all of the top men's players of the International Racquetball Tour (IRT), the women's players of the Women's Professional Racquetball Organization, (WPRO) and the Classic Pro Racquetball Tour (CPRT). The US OPEN is racquetball's original and largest "Grand Slam" event and the most prestigous tournament of the season. The event also offered nearly 70 amateur divisions for men and women and attracted players from all across the world.
In the Men's IRT Professional division, World No. 1 Kane Waselenchuk, defending US OPEN champion made history by capturing his fifth US OPEN Championship and became the winningest man in US OPEN history. The record was previously held by Sudsy Monchik with four titles. Monchik presented the trophy to Waselenchuk who went on to say, "It was an honor to have Sudsy here."

The Women's WPRO Professional division saw Rhonda Rajsich win her third US OPEN Championship by defeating defending champion Paola Longoria in the finals. The win for Rajsich ties her with Canadian Christie Van Hees for most US Open WPRO titles at three.

The Classic Pro Racquetball Tour (CPRT) also crowned a new champion as Woody Clouse defeated the ageless Ruben Gonzalez in the finals. This was Clouses's first US OPEN title in the CPRT.

New Facility Directory

Maverick Athletic Club, Arlington, TX 10 Courts, www.themav.com

USA Racquetball has recently launched a campaign to update existing or add new court clubs and facilities. The new

Facility Directory is a module built by Jay Mathis for USAR and all the other Racquetball Content Management System websites. It is a compilation of several different sources for club lists and is in need of updating.

A very nice feature of the new Facility Directory is an interactive map that also gives details such as the website, phone number, guest fees, number of courts and other detailed information.
The ability for the general public to submit new facilities or suggest changes to existing records assists in having accurate information (subject to approval).  In the near future, players will be able to add their names to individual club listings. The list will be made available in XML format that other websites can use and display however they want. Click on the Facility Directory link or on the left side menu at the bottom.
Feedback on functionality and content can be sent to Jay Mathis [

won the Classic Pro Racquetball Tour (CPRT) division at the US OPEN in Memphis, TN for the first time in his career by defeating the ageless Ruben Gonzalez in the finals, 9-1, 7-9, 9-7, 9-8.
This is the third year the CPRT has been a featured division at the US OPEN. Jimmy Lowe, the defending champion defeated Clouse in the finals last year in Memphis. Gonzalez won the championship in 2007.

Lowe was upset in the quarterfinals this year by Brad McCunniff, who then lost to Gonzalez in the semifinals. Clouse defeated Doug Ganim in the other semifinal.
Racquetball fans enjoyed watching some of the top pros in the world (over 40) put on a great show at the US OPEN as they cheered loud and often for their favorite CPRT player.
